Rafting Few countries in the world offer the thrill of white water in such an impressive setting on rushing rivers flowing through tropical jungles with snow-capped peaks in the distance.White water rafting offers the same rewards as trekking, but with less Physical effort. It's a wilderness experience available to all and a nice alternative for those of us who don't feel like tramping up the trail. From the seat of a rubber raft, you'll see the colorful flora, fauna, and village life of Nepal. And on some trips, you'll pass through remote hill areas where trekkers have yet to venture. There are numerous fine rivers in Nepal which offer excellent calm jade water with magnificence of scenery all about or rush through roaring white rapids, in the care of expert rivermen employed by government authorized agencies. One can opt for a day of river running or more.

Rafting companies operate primarily on two of Nepal's major rivers, the Trisuli and the Sun Kosi.Trips can be from one day to two weeks long. One-day rafting is a quick thrill for those on a tight schedules, while longer trips allow for hikes to nearby villages or temples, and plenty of time for swimming, fishing, photography, and lazing around the most popular trip takes you down the Trisuli, an river named for Lord Shiva's trident. The Trisuli begins in the Himalaya north of Kathmandu and flows southeast to the southern plains of Nepal, called the Terai. The Trisuli has many scenic parts punctuated with some hair-raising white water, rated 3 to 5 on the Colorado River rating system (the higher the number, the more difficult the rapid). You can enjoy a one-day adventure or a three-to five-day trip through thick forests, cultivated paddy fields, narrow gorges, and onto the southern plains. The longer trip ends near the Royal Chitwan National Park, where nemerous lodges offer jungle safari excursions and comfortable accommodations. Rafting and trekking agencies and the jungle lodges can arrange combination trips for those who want a taste of everything.

October through mid-December and March through early May are the best times to raft in Nepal. The water temperature is generally about six to ten degrees Celsius, and the air is clear and warm. If you try during the winter you'll find that the air and water are a bit cooler. Whitewater rafting during monsoon season,June through September is not safe.
